Michele Hatchell

Michele Hatchell (she/her) is a passionate educator, artist, and national expert on queer and trans justice in schools and workplaces. With over 30 years of experience working with children and adolescents—including 23 years as an elementary school teacher and 17 years as an early college teacher at UW Madison—she blends creativity, compassion, and policy expertise to create learning environments where all children and families feel seen, affirmed, and celebrated; while centering differences and finding commonalities.

Michele has developed national training programs and inclusive curriculum for educators through her leadership roles at the Human Rights Campaign and The Fenway Institute. Her photography, paintings, and fiber arts are grounded in mindfulness and connection, reflecting the same values she brings to her work with young children: presence, belonging, and joy.
