Singing Our Grief

“In times of grief, accepting the invitation to sing might be one of the best medicines for loss. It is not a fluke that every spiritual tradition sings and drums.

“[Singing] songs during times of loss can remind us that we have not only lost a friend, a job, a house, or a beloved, but something of ourselves that we had forgotten is returned to us. Perhaps we remember we are interconnected with each other. Singing, chanting, or drumming together gives us a sense of being joined in the grief. We are never alone in grief if we can reach out in a vulnerable state and join the circle.” ~ Rev. Zenju Earthlyn Manuel

We invite you to join us in this ancient medicine. Starting Sept. 20, we will be offering “An Evening of Singing Our Grief” on the third Friday of the month at  @chestnuthillunitedchurch

Join us from 7-8:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary, 8812 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia.

Our circle will include group singing and chanting, embodied toning and vocalizing, as well as space to share your grief and your own medicine songs. All losses, from the personal to the collective, are welcome.

Let us turn our sorrowing into a communal balm of love and tenderness.

Register at the link in bio. Sliding scale $10-$30. No one turned away for lack of funds.
