It’s been a while since we sent out a roundup of justice-oriented letters we’ve signed onto or actions we’ve taken part in. Here, then, is an overdue update (in reverse chronological order):
6/16/25 – I signed us onto a PennEnvironment coalition letter supporting higher renewable energy standards and a legislative proposal to make Pennsylvania’s largest climate polluters pay for their pollution.
6/16/25 – Joy Bergey signed us onto a Choose Clean Water Coalition letter urging the Trump administration to exempt the Mid-Atlantic from offshore oil and gas exploration and drilling.
6/14/25 – No Kings march – Were you there? Several of us were!
6/11/25 – Kipp and Priscilla signed onto a New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia letter thanking Mayor Parker for her support for immigrant justice and urging her to stand firm in the face of the Trump administration’s actions.
6/5/25 – Joy Bergey signed us onto a letter asking the State Democratic leadership to push for necessary funding for SEPTA.
5/28/25 – Joy Bergey signed us onto a PennFuture coalition letter opposing Gov. Shapiro’s proposed rule that would grant polluters undue discretion on whether to report spills into waterways.
5/13/25 – Beth Logue and Kipp took part in a POWER / PA Schools Work day of advocacy in Harrisburg to encourage legislators to robustly fund public education.
4/22/25 – Joy Bergey signed us onto an Environmental Health Project coalition letter asking Gov. Shapiro to use his influence to address the health problems caused by fracking.
4/18/25 – Joy Bergey signed us onto two letters organized by the Choose Clean Water Coalition. The first was to the head of the EPA, protesting proposed efforts to weaken clean water protection in the Chesapeake Watershed. The second went to all members of Congress, protesting proposed closures of the Department of Interior and subsidiary agencies involved in protecting our waterways.
4/6/25 – Beth Logue was a lead organizer of a NW Philadelphia Town Hall in support of robust public education funding that drew several state legislators. More than 100 people attended, at least ten of them from our congregation.
4/3/25 – Kipp attended a New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia action outside of the ICE office in Philadelphia.
4/3/25 – Kipp signed a PennEnvironment coalition letter encouraging the continued development of renewable energy sources in the state.
2/27/25 – Joy Bergey signed us onto a letter opposing the appointment of an ideological extremist as the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
2/4/25 – Kipp signed us onto a Faith in Action open letter to President Trump and Congress opposing Elon Musk’s attacks on faith-based charities.2/4/25 – Joy Bergey signed us onto a Choose Clean Water Coalition letter urging Congress to fund efforts to protect the Chesapeake Watershed.
That’s a wrap! And…all of this work is ongoing. We encourage you to get involved in efforts to build the public good, resist tyranny, grift, and hatred, and help create the world we all want to live in. Remember: You can’t do everything, but you can do something.
